Ack Attack Post 17: History of Acks

Acura is the offspring of Honda. Coming to market in 1986, Acura represented the luxury automobiles and near-luxury vehicles. Acura was introduced to Mexico in 2004, to China in 2006, and is planned to be put into the Japanese domestic market in 2008.

Being that Acura was the first Japanese luxury brand to appear in the US, there were only a few vehicles offered. Two versions of the Legend and the Integra were available right from the start. Four years later, the NSX was introduced, it was the world's first all-aluminum production car.

Though sales suffered for a few years, Acura realized a new audience in the 1990's, the tuner enthusiasts. Honda's easy -to-tune cars carried over to the Acuras and the younger generation took note and began making the mods.

Acrura's re-birth begain in 2000, with the introduction of numerous redesigned models. The TL, MDX, and RSX helped Acura make great strides in sales. Acura's newer models, the RL and TSX have been very well received in all markets. The TL, TSX, and MDX are Acura's best selling vehicles. In 2006, Acura introduced the RDX, which is their small SUV; this is their newest car up to date.

As for a timeline, in 1986, Acura debuts in America as the first Japanese luxury brand. In 1991, Acura was introduce in Hong Kong by Reliance Motors. In 1997, the Integra Type-R was introduced. In 2001, the MDX won Motor Trend's "SUV of the Year" award. In 2002, the RSX replaced the Integra in North America. In 2003, the TSX was introduced as the replacement for the CL coupe and Integra sedan. The Mexican market was introduced to Acura in 2004, and the thrid generation TL was the best selling luxury car in America. In 2005, the RL was introduced. 2006 brought about the introduction of Acura to the Chinese marked, and the birth of the RDX. As for the future, Acura will debut in Japan in 2008 and there are 2 concepts in the workings, one being the re-birth of the NSX.
